Inspiration to Inception

Have you ever wasted precious time and become frustrated searching for small items that you know you are tucked away somewhere in a drawer or hiding under a pile of dust in an open bin?

In early 2018, Wallwerx's founder Mark Zalme found himself in this exact situation in his own garage, yet again. He was determined to make this the last time.  With a couple decades of mechanical design and manufacturing experience under his belt, he turned immediately to creating a solution.

The first problem to be solved, was coming up with a way to get those small items out in plain sight. Next, they needed to be easily accessible, and also protected from the elements like moisture and dust.  It quickly became apparent that a wall mounted solution was the right path. Vertical space is generally underutilized and far less valuable than a horizontal work top.

Modern Manufacturing

Turning to a tool he knows extremely well, Mark immediately took scribbles on paper to CAD, and then directly to 3D printed models. Over the course of the next year, he would continue to use and refine these models, as friends and family increasingly asked if they could get some of their own to get organized.

It quickly became obvious that what he intended as a solution to his own frustration was in fact needed by others as well. This is when things got serious.  While refining the design in preparation for production, a fortunate evolution of the product came about.  It became necessary to split the single piece design into two, due to limitations of the injection molding process.

It quickly became obvious that what he intended as a solution to his own frustration was in fact needed by others as well. This is when things got serious.  While refining the design in preparation for production, a fortunate evolution of the product came about.  It became necessary to split the single piece design into two, due to limitations of the injection molding process.

What initially seemed to be a deathblow to the product, would ultimately result in the creation of an entire product line.  In the process of designing the new required second half of the product, a universal baseplate was created that an infinite number of future modular attachments could be securely mounted.  This was the genesis of the Wallwerx organizer "system."

Solving that first user problem, small items and tools being hidden away in drawers, led to an elegant final solution that addresses needs in an broad array of use cases. Wallwerx started in a garage, but has quickly found applications in craft rooms, artist studios, pantries, tiny homes, breweries, mechanic shops, industrial assembly lines, and more.

The first system attachment in market, the 16oz jar holder that is also compatible with regular mouth mason jars, was taken to production in 2020 and began selling online and in retail shortly thereafter, finding shelf space at The Home Depot by mid-2022.

It was at this point that Dominic Taverniti joined Mark to help grow the business and take it to the next level. Through extensive user testing and research, including putting prototypes into industrial environments to fully flesh out design requirements, the next wave of Wallwerx system attachments were finalized.

Enter the Kickstarter project that the company launched on February 20, 2024!  Going beyond the company's first product in market, this crowdfunding project brings to life the patented organizer system.

That seeming deathblow early in the product design process, when the product needed to be split into two, is now the (literal and physical) foundation of the Wallwerx product line.

This latest product launch introduces, along with the existing 16oz jar attachment, new attachments for 8oz jars, 4oz jars, a utility hook and tool holder. These new products are just the first wave of many more to come.
